Recently, I even listened to a manager from RWE about how they wanted to be more like Uber. Come on, folks, you are producers of electricity. At the end of the day, Uber is ‘just’ an intermediary. The Internet has decreased the transactions costs not just in the tangible monetary costs but also due to the reduced burden (costs) in searching, evaluating alternatives, trust and risks. Hey, I would suggest to use Uber as a case in a marketing course (because Uber is brilliant in getting free public attention) not in the ‘digital transformation’ class.

Thus I hate when somebody mentions sharing economy and Uber in the same sentence (oops, I just did it). Uber is just a different business model for hiring a vehicle and driver to take you from point A to B (an alternative to taxis possible due to the reduction of transaction costs)."
