VW, Robert Bosch agree to pay $1.55 billion to settle U.S. diesel claims
Volkswagen AG has agreed to pay at least $1.22 billion to fix or buy back nearly 80,000 polluting U.S. 3.0 liter diesel-engine vehicles to settle claims it fitted illegal emissions-cheating software to the cars, court documents showed.
German auto supplier Robert Bosch GmbH also agreed to pay $327.5 million to U.S. diesel VW owners, according to the documents filed late Tuesday.
In total, VW has now agreed to spend up to $25 billion in the United States to address claims from owners, environmental regulators, U.S. states and dealers, and offered to buy back about 500,000 polluting vehicles.

VW pay fiasco increases urgency of bonus revamp
Volkswagen has given its departing compliance chief a payout that is more reminiscent of a booming American investment bank than a stricken German carmaker. Christine Hohmann-Dennhardt is receiving around 12 million euros for just over one year of service. For all the extenuating circumstances, the award underscores why VW needs to revamp executive pay.
VW poached Hohmann-Dennhardt from rival Daimler at the height of the diesel emissions crisis in late 2015. A former constitutional judge, she had won accolades for overhauling Daimler’s internal compliance after a bribery scandal. Volkswagen bought her out of her contract at Daimler, where in 2015 she earned 3.7 million euros including deferred bonuses linked to her employer’s share price. This accounted for roughly half of the total VW payout, a person familiar with the pay award told Breakingviews. Add to that 13 months’ salary and compensation for the remaining 23 months of her fixed three-year contract at Volkswagen.
VW’s review has a few boxes to tick. First, cut overall compensation.

Volkswagen plant in Germany extends production stop
Europe's largest automaker said last week it will shut down the Emden plant which employs about 9,000 people for eight days between Jan. 25 and Feb. 3 and on Feb. 20, he said.
"We are having problems in England, Turkey and Russia," the spokesman said. "Demand for the Passat is declining, we cannot rule out further shutdowns until Easter. No one knows how the world will develop."

Pa še ena o znani familiji Hastor in njenih potezah
German automotive interiors maker Grammer rebuffed efforts by Bosnia's Hastor family, a minority shareholder, to replace nearly half of its supervisory board, saying the demand was "completely unexpected and not comprehensible".
The Hastor family also controls automotive supplier Prevent which was in dispute with Volkswagen last year. It has built a stake of just over 20 percent in Grammer through investment vehicles Cascade and Halog.
The Hastor family was not available for comment on Tuesday.

Donald Trump Just Gave Wells Fargo a Break
A government website for complaints against Wells Fargo just disappeared.
Earlier this week, the U.S. Labor Department removed a website it had created to log complaints from Wells Fargo employees who claimed to have been retaliated against by supervisors for blowing the whistle on a massive fake-account scandal that look place at the bank from at least 2011 through 2015.
This move is consistent with other ones that the Trump administration has taken to begin rolling back regulations in the financial services industry and others. But it comes at an especially important time for Wells Fargo.
