Promising to unveil a revolutionary new form of nuclear energy powered by the chemical element thorium, Prime Minister Jesper Berg strikes a very Scandinavian pose by announcing that Norway will lead by example and immediately shut down its considerable gas and oil production.

This upsets the European Union, of which Norway is not a member. In cahoots with Moscow, Brussels secretly threatens Berg with a full-scale Russian invasion unless he commits to maintaining Norway’s fossil fuel extraction under Moscow’s supervision.

Hi people. I recently saw a thread on best and worst countries to be a car enthusiast, and Norway popped up frequently as an answer. I'm about to show you why. The average salary in Norway is about 60,000k dollars, but still we got one of the oldest car-fleets in Europe. This is because of extreme taxes on everything. Power (hp and kw), weight, age, so on. A Chevrolet Camaro (3.6 litre V6) is over 156,000 dollars here in Norway (if I were to import). Why?

Value-added tax = 9,000 dollars
Tax for the weight of the car = 15,000 dollars
Engine tax (horepowers mostly) = 27,000 dollars
CO2 tax = 72,000 dollars
N0x-tax (nitrogen oxide) = 1000 dollars
First-time registration (to get license plates, don't know what this is called in us) = 115,000 dollars
In case you want-to-scrap-your-car-tax = 400 dollars

Total taxes for a Chevrolet Camarao V6? 125,000 dollars. This does not, of course, include shipping, insurance, gas, so on.

NE, hvala. Ko bo nafte konec? Sklad pa tudi ne bo za večno. Zelo verjeten scenarij: Argentina.

According to Mohit Arora, Asia-Pacific executive director at market research firm J.D. Power and Associates, Singapore is the world's most expensive car market.
www.cnbc.com/id/100525565
Car buyers in Singapore must pay for excise and registration duties of about 150 percent of the vehicle’s market value, as well as bid for a limited number of government permits, called certificates of entitlement, that allow a car on the road for 10 years. The cost of a permit alone would now buy a new Porsche Boxster in the U.S., or a C-Class Mercedes in Hong Kong, where curbside pollution rose to a record last year.

In Singapore, Making Cars Unaffordable Has Only Made Them More Desirable
A paltry 15 percent of the city-state's population owns their own vehicle, but not by choice.

In response to queries, an LTA spokesman said: "Based on tests conducted under the UNECE R101 standards, the electric energy consumption of his imported used Tesla car was 444 watt-hour/km."
To "account for CO2 emissions during the electricity generation process", the spokesman said, "a grid emission factor of 0.5g/watt-hour was also applied to the electric energy consumption".

Thanks to costly vehicle ownership permits to control congestion and pollution on the island, rising demand for cars means the revenue from such licenses have risen in recent years as a percentage of GDP. That's on top of a road tax that's imposed on vehicles.
