Walmart Inc, Target Corp and more than 600 other companies urged U.S. President Donald Trump in a letter on Thursday to resolve the trade dispute with China, saying tariffs hurt American businesses and consumers.

This letter is the latest of many sent to the Trump administration by Tariffs Hurt the Heartland, the national campaign against tariffs supported by more than 150 trade groups representing agriculture, manufacturing, retail and tech industries.

The gloves might already be off in the trade war between Beijing and Washington, but it is Chinese hat manufacturers - including those that produce the bright red "Make America Great Again" caps much loved by Donald Trump supporters - that now fear they will be its next casualties.
Among the many categories on a list released last week by the United States Trade Representative's Office of $200 billion worth of goods imported from China that the US is threatening to subject to 10% tariffs is "hats and headgear," including those made from cotton, fur, vegetable fibers or paper yarn.
US media reported earlier that sellers of the "Make America Great Again" caps - which are available, among other places, via the US president's official website - were stockpiling them while they waited for a decision on the tariffs.
David Lassoff, manager of the California-based IncredibleGifts, told ABC News that if he was forced to switch to an American supplier because of the tariffs on Chinese imports, he would have to raise the retail price of the caps he sells to at least $20, from $9 to $12 currently.

David Lassoff is the manager of a California-based company that sells a range of novelty items online.
He told ABC News his company, IncredibleGifts, typically imports the red hats from China and embroiders them in the U.S. But now the company may have to complete both tasks in the U.S., which could raise prices significantly.
"We usually sell the MAGA hats for around $9 to $12. But it could go up to $20 if we had to make them in the U.S. and embroider them here," Lassoff said.

Brian Kennedy: The fabric, the cord, the plastic strap, the fabric underneath, the sweatband, the whole hat is made here in America.
Brian Kennedy: We are one of the few American companies left making hats. There is a need, a niche, for that American product, and that's what we've been really striving for the last couple of years. It's an incredible opportunity to make this hat for the President of the United States. I think that this hat is an icon for what is going on in the country and we're really happy to make the hat for the president. Hopefully we can keep this going.

Make Idiots Great Again. :-P
